Your day begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. After a short drive to the park gate, you enter the forested lower slopes of Mount Meru. The first section of the drive winds through tall fig and cedar trees where black-and-white colobus monkeys swing in the canopy. You continue through open plains where herds of buffaloes, zebras, and warthogs graze peacefully.
A stop at Ngurdoto Crater offers breathtaking views into a collapsed caldera surrounded by forest and wildlife. Later, you head toward the Momella Lakes, a chain of shallow soda lakes known for flamingos and other birdlife.
